Some population are concern about What's the divergence in the middle of a wide screen monitor versus a quarterly model as far as what article shows up on the monitors. Widescreen monitors are all the rage at the moment, these monitors are more popular than normal monitors because they are less expensive. The other thing is widescreen seems to be great for some applications, like email. The windows can open side by side, so you can put two excel spreadsheets side by side like normal papers or excel spreadsheets
Standard monitors on the other hand look like they're great for other applications that vastly superior for most common computer tasks. It allows you to display an whole .pdf page on the screen rather than having to continually scroll up and down when a .pdf page doesn't fit on the screen. It allows for more web page article to be displayed in your browser at one time either widescreen gives less vertical space and shows less article on the screen for most applications.

If you look at it in a resolution stand point, widescreens have a resolution of 1440x900 while normal monitors are 1280x1024. This means that widescreen monitors have a total of 1296000 pixels while normal screens have 1310720 pixels. That is very close and probably doesn't make much difference.
Since most applications scroll vertically rather than horizontally, there's no real benefit over using a widescreen monitor. Unless you watch a lot of high definition video or do a lot of gaming, paying extra for a widescreen monitor may not be the best way to go for you
